FUI
This summer the Fresno Urban Internship students
have been stretched, challenged and changed.
It was a heart wrenching and powerful summer for
all 36 students and 5 FUI staff, and will take
weeks, months, years to unpack and incorporate
into life. The Interns lived in community in the
Pink House and at our second location,
"The Hub" .
Carolyn, a third year UCLA Student wrote this in
the 2010
FUI
blog:
Life of Refugee
"Yesterday I started learning a Lao dance
that tells of refugees escaping to arrive here
and finding Jesus. On my first day at Fresno
Interdenominational Ministries (a.k.a. FIRM),
the woman who was teaching the dance told me how
she survived a land mine explosion. She credits
God for saving her so that she could later know
him. Through this woman’s testimony and faith
and so many stories I hear at FIRM, I am
learning God’s heart for the foreigner, for
compassion and justice and hope...
We’re all refugees in God’s kingdom, having run
from evil in the world to a place of shelter and
a chance at new life. So I’m looking forward to
my next dance lesson tomorrow, and my next day
to learn from and serve refugees and the God who
took me in."

Progress
at
the Leadership Training Center
Two youth groups
joined together to make
huge
strides in
progress in
July. Nancy Donat of Bethany Inner-City Church
and Matt
Ford of North Fresno MB Church directed all that
teenage energy into hard work. They installed
insulation and scraped paint on the
exterior of the building.
 
One of the
volunteers assisted
in
refurbishing
wood slats that will
become the flooring for the
building.
Jeff Smith led
3 neighborhood
youth,
Xavier Rivera,
Leo Alejandrez and Ismael Sierra in installing
soundboard in the LTC offices
and the conference
room. They also did some
painting in the Pink House.
