Economic Opportunity Commission's Transitional Living Center:

An independent living program for young homeless adults, ages 16 - 24.  The EOC provides safe places for runaway and homeless youth, and transitional living centers to help them move from the streets into more stable life situations.  Interns provide life skills, academic and vocational mentoring and coaching as well as participating in recreational activities with TLC youth.

Evangel Home:

A women's shelter and training center which focuses on outreach to women (and perhaps their children) in crisis. Your duties would vary from being a friend, childcare, sorting clothes, answering the phone, and leading chapel or a Bible study occasionally.

Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries:

FIRM yearly serves 6,500+ SE Asian, Slavic, and African refugees through holistic neighborhood/youth outreach and enrichment programs, elder citizenship, hot meals and advocacy, community gardens, health navigation and policy work, culturally appropriate community organizing, mental health support, state-licensed preschool, family mentoring and support services, employment projects, English classes, and theological education. Interns mentor refugees in English, assist with English classes, and are involved with neighborhood/youth outreach programs.

Fresno Rescue Mission:

Ministry with homeless men in the Mission’s Rehabilitation program, known as The Academy, for men whose lives have been broken by homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, physical and mental abuses, jail and/or prison experiences. The 18-month program provides hope for a normal life, the opportunity for restoration, and wholeness that comes from faith in God.

Fresno Street Saints:

4 Churches and 7 pastors and community leaders have joined together to provide mentoring, opportunity, meals and hope to youth on Fresno's historically African-American, but increasingly multiethnic west side.  Interns help run a summer day camp for the children and youth in two large affordable housing apartment complexes.

Hope Now For Youth:

This ministry works with young men (16 – 25), preparing them for employment through job readiness programs, placement service, mentoring and friendships.

Light and Life Urban Ministries:

An apartment complex based summer enrichment day camp for at risk children and youth. Interns provide leadership to the day camp, tutoring, and relating with the children and youth.

Reading and Beyond:

A church based one on one tutoring of underprivileged youth in reading and math.

World Impact:

A ministry focusing its efforts in mostly children's and adult ministry. You would be doing kids clubs, day camps, relating one-one with children and adults in Fresno's poorest neighborhoods.
